The inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 kicks off in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 24 October, bringing together young footballers representing 189 FIFA member associations in one of the most inclusive international football events ever organised.

The tournament, running until 30 October, marks an important milestone in global youth football. According to FIFA, 78 participating associations will make their first-ever appearance at a FIFA World Cup competition, across all age categories and both men’s and women’s football.

More than 3,000 players, coaches and officials are expected to participate in an innovative competition featuring nearly 1,000 matches. The event combines football with educational activities, cultural exchange and opportunities for young athletes to develop both on and off the pitch.

The inaugural edition features boys’ teams, with a girls’ tournament scheduled for 2027 and separate competitions for boys and girls planned annually from 2028.

In a significant step towards global accessibility, FIFA has confirmed that all matches will be broadcast live and free of charge worldwide through FIFA+ on DAZN, with up to 20 simultaneous streams.

Beyond the competition itself, the initiative demonstrates how international sport can create opportunities for young athletes regardless of their country’s size or footballing tradition.

For the wider sport integrity community, it is a positive reminder that fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities are essential foundations of sport from the earliest stages of an athlete’s journey.
